長崎の果物として有名なびわ。
今から約180年程前に長崎の中国領事より三浦シオがびわの種子をもらい茂木の地に植え育てたのがその始まると云われています。
12月頃、白い花を咲かせるびわの木は、5月初めの頃から黄金色の見事な実を実らせます。
びわの実は収穫時季がとても短く（20日程度）、それだけにデリケートに美味しくいただける時期が一年の間でも限られています。
